Film Flams

A movie commentary podcast

About the show

David and Bo live in different parts of the world but they watch movies together. Every episode they pause a movie on the opening scene then count down to hit play. David, Bo and anyone else who wants to join in can follow along. Listen to the crew discuss their favorite scenes, fan theories, lore and behind the scenes stories, all while watching their favorite movies.

Episodes

  • Episode 39: They Live

    November 8th, 2018  |  1 hr 36 mins
keith david, meg foster, roddy piper

An awesome movie that spans horror, sci-fi, and political satire. This movie may be 20 years ahead of it's time. Listen to David, Bo and special guest Kyle discuss the amazing back story and iconic scenes of 1988's They Live.

  • Episode 40: Mad Max: Fury Road

    November 8th, 2018  |  2 hrs 5 mins
charlize theron, nicholas hoult, tom hardy

If you don't normally listen to the film flam episodes, I really think you should consider this one.  Fury Road is a bit of a sleeper great movie, while critically acclaimed it wasn't as profitable as you may think.  Personally I originally saw the movie thinking it was going to be a dumb action flick (which are still great for different reasons) turns out it's perfectly balanced movie that never lulls.

  • Cabin in the woods

    October 3rd, 2018  |  1 hr 37 mins
anna hutchison, chris hemsworth, kristen connolly

Comically typical horror movie teen group vacation at a cabin in the woods, where they find a mysterious underbelly of horror.

  • Episode 37: Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)

    October 2nd, 2018  |  2 hrs 2 mins
edward norton, michael keaton, zach galifianakis

Does Riggan have speacial powers? Probably not, But I’m pretty sure Michael Keaton does. This movie showcases Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, Edward Norton and many others. Possibly the most intentional casting for a movie covering art, self doubt, self identity, and celebrity. A deconstruction balanced in dark comedy. Listen along as David and I watch one of my favorite and one of David’s most “meh” movies of all time.

  • Episode 35: Mallrats

    October 2nd, 2018  |  1 hr 38 mins
jason lee, jeremy london, kevin smith, shannen doherty

This week's Film Flam is one of my favorite movies; Mallrats. Probably the best view askewniverse movie and the first one I saw as a young, soon-to-be Kev smith fan. Watch and listen along as David and I fanboy this peace of 90s cultural history.

  • Episode 36: Xanadu

    October 2nd, 2018  |  1 hr 37 mins
gene kelly, michael beck, olivia newton-john

Xanadu is a 1980 musical in which an artist needs inspiration to run a night club, I guess. To follow his dreams of being an artist by not painting a single painting the entire movie. Oh, but there is street art that comes to life and somehow helps... Xanadu.

  • Episode 32: Aliens

    September 30th, 2018  |  2 hrs 37 mins
carrie henn, michael biehn, sigourney weaver

David and I continue the Alien franchise with my personal favorite. Aliens. Disney's newest princess Ripley fights the evil queen in this fairy tale thriller.

  • Episode 34: Alien: Resurrection

    September 30th, 2018  |  1 hr 57 mins
dominique pinon, sigourney weaver, winona ryder

We round out the end of our Aline series with the final (chronologically speaking) installment; Alien: Resurrection. This movie has some redeeming qualities but overall is a prime example of how you can have all the right people involved and all the best intentions but still miss the mark. Also there was a giant pregnant queen that gave birth to an xeno-human abomination with Muppet eyes.

  • Episode 33: Alien 3

    September 30th, 2018  |  2 hrs 23 mins
charles dance, charles s. dutton, sigourney weaver

David and Bo watch the third installment of the Alien franchise, Alien 3.

  • Episode 31: Alien

    September 30th, 2018  |  2 hrs 1 min
john hurt, sigourney weaver, tom skerritt

After a space merchant vessel perceives an unknown transmission as a distress call, its landing on the source moon finds one of the crew attacked by a mysterious lifeform, and they soon realize that its life cycle has merely begun.   - IMDB

  • Episode 29: Yoga Hosers

    September 15th, 2018  |  1 hr 30 mins
harley quinn smith, johnny depp, lily-rose depp

I'm really excited for the third installment of the Kevin Smith Canadian horrors, Moose Jaws. But I would be a terrible fan if I watched Moose Jaws without seeing the second installment. Yoga Hosers is one half Clerks level genius and one half ridiculous, hilarious, cartoonish comedy. Follow along as we witness the wurst Canada has to offer.

  • Episode 28: Alien: Covenant

    September 15th, 2018  |  2 hrs 3 mins
billy crudup, katherine waterston, michael fassbender
